Trump says he wants to appoint an AI czar
In a Truth Social post, Trump said he wants an "AI czar" to lead a new "AI force," giving no timeline, structure or candidate.
US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that he wants to create an "AI force" and appoint an "AI czar" to lead it. The post came as calls to slow down AI development grew louder across the political spectrum and inside the industry itself.
Trump said his administration "will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry," adding: "Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!"
Claims about data centres
In the same post, Trump described data centres as "wealthy and prestigious" and said they raised salaries, lowered taxes and made streets safer in the communities where they were built. The Verge notes these claims were made without evidence.
He also compared the proposed body to the Space Force created during his earlier term, which he called a "tremendous SUCCESS."
No details
The post included no timeline, no description of how the AI force would work and no name for who might lead it. Trump only specified that for the czar role, "Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!"
