Grok 4.5 comes to chat: the engineer's model takes a seat at the conversation table
Launched in July for coding and agentic work, Grok 4.5 is now the default face of the chat product. SpaceXAI is not shy: the most intelligent Grok ever, better at conversation and everything else.
SpaceXAI has brought Grok 4.5 to its chat product, and the announcement slogan does not bother with modesty: the most intelligent Grok ever, better at conversation and everything else. The demo frame shows where the productization points: a user circling the jacket of a man walking down a busy street and asking, find me this jacket for under 100 dollars.
The model itself is not new; its identity is changing. When Grok 4.5 launched in July, it was shelved under coding and agentic work: reading and modifying large repositories, coordinating multi-step plans through tools, holding detail across long piles of documents. Elon Musk described it then as roughly comparable to Opus 4.7 but much faster, and the company's charts placed it above Opus 4.8 on several benchmarks. Now the same engine steps out of the developer console and settles in as the default of the chat window everyone talks to.
The timing is no accident: everyone in the chat assistant market is moving the same week; Google opened its image tool wide, OpenAI keeps growing its plugin store. SpaceXAI's strong card is distribution: Grok lives inside X, embedded in the platform's feed. Turning a model proven on engineering into the face of chat is a play to convert that distribution into habit and revenue.
One footnote: this week we covered a SpaceXAI engineer's working setup with Grok Bot; the company runs on agents inside and polishes chat for the outside. Both ends belong to one strategy: put the model everywhere, in every form.
