OpenAI brings agents to the life sciences: Rosalind Workbench previews with NVIDIA BioNeMo support
OpenAI introduces an agentic research environment built on GPT-Rosalind; NVIDIA backs the preview with its BioNeMo Agent Toolkit. One workspace from protein design to NGS analysis.
OpenAI has introduced Rosalind Workbench for life-science researchers: an agentic research platform that pulls fragmented scientific data, disconnected tools and experimental records into a single working environment. In the announcement, the company frames it as bringing the experience its engineers have with Codex to the life sciences.
The platform is built on GPT-Rosalind, a dedicated life-sciences model that combines frontier reasoning with orchestration of domain tools. Supported work spans protein design and molecular structure analysis, small-molecule design, genomics and next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis, pathology slide review, sequence alignment and variant analysis, and experimental validation planning. There are dedicated viewers for molecular structures, biological sequences and pathology slides; on the NGS side, FASTQ quality control, bulk RNA-seq and single-cell analysis are included.
There are two modes: an explore mode for general questions and a research mode for advanced analysis. Outputs are traceable and reviewable, with added safeguards around sensitive biological information.
NVIDIA Healthcare announced that its BioNeMo Agent Toolkit supports the research preview, bringing agent-ready capabilities such as genomics, molecular structure prediction and biological sequence analysis directly into the workspace - with NVIDIA stressing that review and verification stay with humans.
Rosalind Workbench is available now as a research preview through the ChatGPT app. Members of verified organisations can request GPT-Rosalind access; individual access is said to be "coming soon". Pricing has not been announced.
