Vercel has opened a health and medicine focused language model free of charge for a month: Ling 3.0 Flash Sante is available at no cost through AI Gateway until 4 October. The changelog entry went up on 4 September. The model comes from inclusionAI and is a health-oriented version of Ling 3.0 Flash.
What the model is
By Vercel's figures the model has 124 billion total parameters, with about 5.1 billion active per token. The context window is 256K tokens and function calling is supported. The stated targets are medical reasoning, professional healthcare tasks, deep research, evidence-based retrieval and multi-step medical workflows.
What free means here
There are two model IDs and the difference matters. inclusionai/ling-3.0-flash-sante begins billing when the offer ends; inclusionai/ling-3.0-flash-sante-free stops serving instead of switching to billing. Vercel's note: free requests still appear in the spend dashboard and carry a trace, they just cost nothing. Pricing after the offer was not stated.
For the corporate reader
A month of free access is a real chance to evaluate medical decision support, with two conditions. First the data: requests pass through a third-party gateway, so testing with patient data is a separate legal assessment and it is safer to start with synthetic or de-identified records. Second, validation: the target list is ambitious, and in healthcare no model should be adopted without measuring it on your own cases. No independent comparison has been published.
