Reuters reporter Katie Paul answered questions in an AMA on Reddit's r/technology about her special report on Meta's effort to make its workforce "AI native".

According to Paul, Meta drew up a plan to cut the size of teams across the company by as much as 60% in two waves. Internally the effort was known as Project OT.

## Why the plan stalled

Staff revolted against the plan and AI agent technology did not perform as executives had hoped, the report says. Hours before a large layoff in May, CEO Mark Zuckerberg called off planning for further cuts.

Paul has reported for Reuters for about 11 years. Before covering technology, she was based in Saudi Arabia, Syria and other locations in the Middle East.

## Earlier reporting

In the run-up to the Meta investigation, Paul broke the news of the company's May 20 layoffs, its push to capture employee mouse movements for use as AI training data, and the labour organising efforts that gained momentum in response to the restructuring.

The session ran from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET. The questions and answers are available in the [AMA thread on Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1w5k5h4/hi%5Freddit%5Fim%5Fkatie%5Fpaul%5Fa%5Freuters%5Fjournalist%5Fwho/?ref=globalfeed.ai).
