Z.ai has opened the weights of its flagship GLM-5.3\. The system the company calls "our most capable model for agentic coding and cyber defense" can now be downloaded from Hugging Face, run locally and customized. The announcement passed 1.3 million views on X within hours.

The technical sheet is ambitious: GLM-5.3 carries 753 billion parameters in a mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture and supports a context window of up to 300,000 tokens. By Z.ai's own measurement, the model delivers a 50 percent jump over the previous GLM-5.2 on Z.ai Code Bench, and the company positions it as "the most capable open-weights model for coding".

The second headline is cybersecurity: Z.ai says the model sets a new state of the art on the CyberGym vulnerability-discovery benchmark and more than doubles GLM-5.2's score on exploitation tests. The company frames this muscle as "cyber defense"; what that level means in an open-weights model will be debated in the weeks ahead.

The practical side is covered too: BF16 and FP8 builds are ready, deployment is supported through vLLM and SGLang, and thinking depth is controlled by a three-level reasoning\_effort setting (low, high, max). The model ships under its own GLM-5.3 license; not classic MIT or Apache, but the weights are yours.

The bigger picture: after Kimi K3 and DeepSeek, China's labs keep opening their most ambitious models. For developers wrestling with closed labs' price lists, a downloadable 753-billion-parameter coding model is the clearest measure yet of where the open ecosystem has pushed the bar.
