Cloudflare adds a model-picking router, faster sandboxes and error tracking for developers
Cloudflare put the AI Gateway Auto Router, which picks a suitable model for each request, into public beta and announced a new Containers architecture that starts agent sandboxes much faster, along with Sandbox SDK 1.0. Workers Issues collects errors and sends them to coding agents to fix.
Cloudflare announced three updates for developers on September 30, 2026. AI Gateway gained a router that picks a suitable model for each request, the sandboxes where agents run code now start much faster on rebuilt infrastructure, and an error tracking tool that collects failures in Workers applications and sends them to coding agents entered beta.
Auto Router picks the model for each request
AI Gateway is Cloudflare's service for managing requests to different AI providers from a single point. The new Auto Router makes the model choice for each request, so developers no longer have to decide case by case. According to the company, a classifier running on Workers AI places the request in one of 14 task categories such as coding, planning, research or data analysis, and scores its complexity, ambiguity, stakes and dependence on earlier context. These signals are combined with model benchmark data to balance expected quality against cost: price weighs more on simple requests, and stronger models win as difficulty rises. To use it, developers set the model to cloudflare/auto. Auto Router is in public beta and free during the beta. Cloudflare reports cost savings, a result that comes from the company's own internal use.
AI Gateway's User Insights view was updated the same day. According to the page, it shows which users, applications and tasks are using which models and flags cases where an overly capable model handles a simple task. Because the analysis runs after requests complete, results trail traffic by about a day.
Containers rebuilt for agent sandboxes
Cloudflare Containers lets Workers applications run Linux containers alongside them. The company rebuilt the platform for agent workloads: the image and instance type can now be chosen in code when a sandbox starts; previously this was fixed at deployment time. According to a ComputeSDK benchmark that Cloudflare describes as independent, typical startup time fell from just over four seconds to just over half a second; the post does not describe any relationship between ComputeSDK and Cloudflare. Filesystem snapshots, which save a workspace's state and restore it later, are in public beta. A ready-made Debian-based system image is also available. Sandbox SDK 1.0 is a set of utilities to use inside the developer's own Durable Object class, replacing the base class approach. The older Container and Sandbox classes are supported through December 31, 2026; after that, existing deployments keep running but receive no updates.
Workers Issues sends errors to a coding agent
Workers Issues is error monitoring built into the Workers runtime; there is no SDK to install, and one line in wrangler.jsonc turns it on. It captures uncaught exceptions, failed invocations, 5xx responses and logs with stack traces, and groups repeated errors into a single issue. Through automations, the error, stack trace, logs and Worker version can be sent to a coding agent such as Claude Code, Cursor or Devin, or to a generic webhook. The agent investigates, proposes a fix and opens a pull request, and a human approves the change. The tool is in public beta.
Most of these tools are in beta, and pricing after the beta has not been settled; current prices are on Cloudflare's website. Because Auto Router chooses the model on the developer's behalf, it is important to track which models are selected for quality, cost and data handling reasons. Since Workers Issues sends error records and logs to an outside coding agent, teams should check in advance whether those records contain sensitive data. Anyone using the older Containers classes needs to plan the migration before December 31, 2026. To see how the tools hold up in real projects, it is worth following evaluations from independent developers and researchers.
