Claude opens to scientists: 10,000 seats, free for students - how to apply, step by step

Anthropic has announced its new Claude Team plan for scientists: Claude access opens to 10,000 researchers across every field, from mathematics to chemistry and physics. Standard seats are free; premium seats with five times the usage limits cost 15 dollars a month, with pricing fixed for a year. The company says it intends to extend the programme well beyond the initial 10,000 seats in the coming months.

The scope is broad: accredited universities and nonprofit research institutes, across the natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering and related fields. In the official flow, registration starts with a principal investigator or equivalent at an academic or research institution completing a verification form; once verified, the PI can add the researchers in their lab to the plan.

How to apply as a student

One. Go to claude.ai/labs-verification and pick the standard (free) tier.

Two. Tick "Confirm your eligibility" on the screen that opens and continue.

Three. At "Verify your institutional email", enter your university-issued .edu address and complete the verification.

Four. If a verified friend sets up a team and sends an invite link, you can join that team with your own university email - students on social media report the process working through this route as well.

In short: with a university email the cost is zero, and premium is priced within a student budget if you need it. Seats are limited and applications are open - better not to wait.
