Claude Fable 5.1 goes live on Amazon Bedrock

AWS announced that Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.1 is now available on Amazon Bedrock and on Claude Platform on AWS. Anthropic positions the model for coding, scientific research and enterprise workflows.

According to Anthropic, Fable 5.1 improves on Fable 5 in the hardest reasoning tests the company runs, covering competition mathematics, graduate-level questions in engineering and the sciences, and long multi-step problems where reliability matters.

Covered Model status

Anthropic has designated Fable 5.1 a Covered Model, a category of Claude models subject to additional data retention, safety review and access policies wherever they are offered. On Bedrock, using the model requires the aws_review mode, set on the account or project through the data retention API before invocation. In that mode AWS retains prompts and outputs for up to 30 days for human safety review inside the AWS boundary, carried out by Amazon personnel. AWS states that use of Fable 5.1 does not require sharing data with the model provider.

Enterprise Frontier Safeguards

Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS), built jointly by AWS and Anthropic, is intended to let eligible customers run Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 while keeping data in a cloud environment they control. Eligible customers can use both models with zero data retention on Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS, available for internal use through 31 December 2026. AWS says further safeguards arriving later this year will allow prompts and outputs to stay in the customer's own AWS account under their encryption keys, access policies and audit logging, with automated safety monitoring and no human review.

Developers can test the model in the Bedrock console under Test > Playground, or call it programmatically with the Anthropic Messages API against bedrock-runtime, as well as the Invoke and Converse APIs via the AWS CLI and SDKs. Availability covers the US Geo CRIS (us.) and Global CRIS (global.) inference profiles, plus the bedrock-runtime and bedrock-mantle endpoints in AWS GovCloud (US). Claude Platform access is limited to North America. Full details are in the AWS announcement.
