Claude adds Docs and Slides, folds Cowork into chat
Anthropic merged Claude Cowork into chat and brought Docs, Slides and Design into the conversation. Documents and presentations can be downloaded as PowerPoint or PDF.
On 16 September, Anthropic merged Claude Cowork, its separate workspace, into chat, and brought three tools directly into the conversation: Claude Docs, Claude Slides and Claude Design. The point is that users no longer have to decide where a task belongs.
What changed
A quick question and a report due at noon now go to the same place, and Claude takes it from there, continuing even after you close your laptop. The merge is rolling out on Pro and Max plans over the next few weeks, with other plans to follow.
Docs, Slides, Design
Claude Docs and Claude Slides were added today, and Claude Design now works inside conversations. Ask for a document and you write it with Claude; ask for a presentation and Claude drafts the slides. You can edit directly, present straight from Claude, or download as PowerPoint or PDF.
All three are in beta on paid plans. Enterprise admins decide when to turn them on. For those who use Claude Design on its own, nothing changes.
Why
Anthropic had built Cowork as a separate place for bigger work and Design for visual work. People used both, but the company says the frustrating part was deciding which tool a task belonged to. That is the reason for the merge.
