Open-source models just received their largest financial endorsement: Together AI and Saudi Arabia's AI company HUMAIN have agreed to serve open-source models across 250 megawatts of data center capacity. According to Together AI founder Vipul Ved Prakash, the partnership covers the next 12 months and the capacity amounts to roughly 100,000 or more chips; the company's own announcement puts annualized revenue above $5 billion.

Prakash's phrasing captures the market's pulse: demand for open and custom AI tokens is vertical, and this partnership is one of the largest so far focused on delivering open-source tokens globally. Together AI puts it even plainer: one of the largest AI infrastructure deals ever signed for open source, period.

Why it matters: capital at this scale has mostly flowed to closed models until now. At the end of a week in which we covered Kimi K3 moving onto rentable infrastructure, LingBot becoming a base model in robotics and Tailscale open-sourcing its core, 250 megawatts dedicated to open-model token generation shows this wave is no longer a matter of goodwill.

Geography is part of the story too: in-country inferencing in India, a state-as-customer programme in Britain, a €387.8 million supercomputer in Europe, and now vast capacity earmarked for open source in the Gulf. The map of AI is being redrawn, and this time the lines follow electricity and silicon, not just models.
